The Eden Prairie Fire Department has sent some of it’s team to the Fargo-Moorhead area to assist with the flood prevention. Several EPFD employees are also part of the state’s “All Hazard Incident Management Team.” Typically when this team deploys at least 16 people get assigned, but that number can vary depending on whether All Hazard Incident Managment Team will be operating around the clock, according to Chief George Esbensen’s blog on the city’s website. Given that the National Weather Service yesterday predicted the Red River to crest a full two feet higher than its earlier predictions, and that crest is expected tomorrow, I would guess that operations in the region are 24/7. Let’s hope everyone stays safe. Alright, let’s check out what’s happening this weekend in Eden Prairie. Tomorrow at the Library is the Optimists Club’s oratorical contest. Students 16 and under will expound for 4-5 minutes on the phrase “to me, optimism is…” beginning at 10:30 am First and second place finishers will receive medallions and book store gift cards, and winners will go on to the Zone level competition and an opportunity to win a $1500 college scholarship. And Friendship Ventures is having an event tomorrow in the Welcome Center of Eden Wood Center. General Mills will present Friendship Ventures with a grant of $10000, and campers there will prepare and serve a healthy snack and demonstrate fitness activities. That’s from 11-noon tomorrow.
