MBA Grants for Women

Ten years ago all you needed for the job market and/or promotion was a Bachelors degree. Now you might get an entry level job without a graduate level work. There are many companies that won’t hire you unless you have a Master’s or PhD degree, IT firms is an example. There are even fields that are being flooded with those from other countries who have the degrees desired and received help from their government. For US citizens there isn’t help from the federal government, but women can potentially get scholarships from non-profit organizations.

Masters and MBA grants geared toward women can have strict criteria. In the 80′s and 90′s there was more money available than there is now. The gender gap in both the higher education and workforce arena has narrowed and doesn’t look quite as bad. Since this is the case there are fewer places for women in the US to receive educational help, especially for postgraduate work.

It is now easier for women to get postgraduate college degrees. In the past, if women didn’t study full time they could only take evening classes on the campus. That was a problem for women with children and families. Online classes increased because of this demand and universities are working towards more of these. Women can now take classes and study whenever it is convenient for them. Since this is the case many organizations are giving scholarships for women to get their MBA.

There are two general organizations that award postgraduate scholarships for women. The first one is Women’s charities. An example would be the Philanthropic Educational Organization. This organization has three educational aid programs; one of them is for women pursuing postgraduate educations. The other program is an alternative student loan program, with a 4% interest rate for $10,000.

The second organization offering these types of grants for women is those that are women only professional associations and/or women’s chapters of professional associations. These organizations are trying to balance out the workforce in this specific field. An example would be the Education Foundation for Women in Accounting and the Computing Research Association’s Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research.

There are also other organizations, etc that are not so easily classified. Some of these organizations award scholarships to women pursuing a postgraduate degree in male dominated fields. In 2010 some of these fields include Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science and Architecture. If you are a minority woman they include Law, Medicine and Business Administration.

Many postgraduate students forget about government-subsidized student college loans like Perkins and Stafford loans. Many postgraduate students forget about this and are less likely to be taken more so than for a bachelors degree. Perkins loans are offered by the college and Stafford loans are offered by a private lender. Interest rates are lower than commercial student loans and repayment terms are more flexible since these are subsidized and/or guaranteed by the federal government.

Even though the gender gap is the workplace is narrowing, women still need to work hard and great qualifications to get ahead in their careers. It is easier for women to pursue a Masters degree with so many scholarships available.
