You can apply for a $10K scholarship for free from Scholarship Zone.  You need to be 18 or older and live in the United States to qualify.  The website has the form where you can register for the drawing.  The scholarship is given away each month so don’t delay your free registration.

A second scholarship program that you should take a look at is the Sam Walton Community Scholarship.  Students who qualify for this scholarship can win a $3000 scholarship.  To apply you have to submit examples of your best essays as well as poetry and non-fiction.

Another scholarship you may want to apply for is the Carnegie Writing Scholarship.  To apply, submit works in humor, dramatic script, and journalism.  Poetry and non-fiction are other types of writing that you can also send in.

There is no such thing as a magic pill when it comes to winning scholarships.  Play your weaknesses so as to make them appear as a hardship you’ve had to go through to get to where you are now.

When applying for scholarships, remember to send in your applications well before the deadline.  This will look more professional and while it may not necessarily give you a better head start through the application process, you will at least have a shot at the scholarship because you will not have missed the deadline.
