Mr. Inder Sharma is a name synonymous with the Indian Travel & Tourism industry. With an illustrious career spanning over 5 decades, he is today fondly referred to as The Travel Man of India. Going decades back, Mr. Sharma after completing his Masters in Economics from Delhi University, joined the Travel industry in 1953, at a salary of 150 Indian rupees per month. During his college days, he was active in student politics being Prime Minister at the Hindu College Parliament and also President of the Students Congress. He started his career with Mercury Travels India and after 2 years in 1955, joined SITA World Travel at its Head Quarters in New York. He completed a six months training stint there, and thereafter, returned to India to start a branch of SITA USA. During his tenure he was very active in the Industry affairs and held several prominent positions, to list a few he was President PATA ; President WATA for 06 years; President- SKAL; & President-TAAI for 04 consecutive years. He was also on the Board of Directors of Air India, Indian Airlines and several other Tourism Corporation. He was also the Chairman of UP Tourism Development Corporation. His journey in the industry, is an outstanding example of Indian entrepreneurship, having started in 1956, with just three staff, to build Indias truly professional travel management organization- SITA World Travels India.
