Okay, so I’m a junior in high school and the deadlines are approaching super quickly. But I’m a bit confused, because in the application (I’m applying for the Gates-Millenium scholarship by the way) is due in only four days and it has a whole bunch of questions about are you graduating and stuff. So…am I supposed to wait for my senior year?
Also it has this race category for the “minorities” and there isn’t even an option for “caucasian” (I’m half Cherokee, but you have to get a blood test to prove it) so…should I check the Native American box anyway?
I’m so stressed out and confused!!!!!!
Caucasian isn’t a minority, that’s why it’s not there. That scholarship is only for minorities.
If you can prove it, you can check mark it. Make sure to check to see if half is okay or if you need to be full to get the scholarship.
Also, you can’t apply for that scholarship until you’re a senior. You’re a little bit too early. (“You should apply for the Gates Scholarship during your senior year of high school, if you have a GED or if you have never attended college before and will be entering as an incoming freshman in the fall.”)
Proving you are Cherokee is done by providing a copy of your tribal enrollment paperwork or Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB), neither of which require a blood test. You should only check the Native American box if you are tribally enrolled or have a CDIB.
